This 7″ reissue features two tracks by Junior Byles from his influential 1970s work with producer Lee “Scratch” Perry, released on the Upsetter label. The record reflects the roots reggae sound of the period, with spiritual themes and a deep, atmospheric production style.
The A-side, “Rasta No Pick Pocket,” and the B-side, “Place Called Africa,” both showcase Byles’ expressive vocal delivery and focus on social and religious themes.
Junior Byles (Kerrie Byles Jr.) was one of the most distinctive voices in roots reggae, rising to prominence through his collaboration with Lee Perry. Before his solo career, he was a member of the vocal group The Versatiles and became known for lyrics centered on social issues and Rastafarian faith.
